BANK Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) was recently awarded with the region’s Best Smart Branch Project at the 10th The Asian Banker’s (TAB) Technology Innovation Awards 2016. TAB is the region’s leading financial services research, benchmarking and intelligence consultancy.

The awards ceremony took place at TAB’s Annual Business Achievement Awards Dinner 2016, held at the JW Marriott Hanoi, Vietnam. Present to receive the momentous award on behalf of BIBD was its Chief Operating Officer Dr Gyorgy Ladics.

Commenting on the award, BIBD Managing Director Mubashar Khokhar stated that “BIBD is appreciative to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam for his exemplary forward-thinking vision in shaping the future of Brunei Darussalam. In addition to that, we are thankful of the relevant government and regulatory authorities, along with the people of Brunei Darussalam for their trust and support in allowing the BIBD to grow into the bank that it is today.

“We will continue striving towards creating an exemplary service and will always push the boundaries for the convenience of our customers. At the same time we are both honoured and humbled to be recognised as having won the Best Smart Branch in the region award as this landmark serves as a testament for all the efforts in place towards becoming the first choice for our customers.

TAB stated that BIBD, along with its technology partner Silverlake SDE, was commended due to their digital banking platform with paperless processes and integrated sales, which improved customer experience. The implementation reduced timeframes and administrative activities, which enabled the staff to focus more on sales and showcasing products.

TAB also cited the bank’s unique features of a shopping basket concept to enable ‘pick and choose’ accounts and services, marketing e-brochures and video demonstrations. These also enabled swift data capture of the customer’s information.
