THE National Anti-Drug Association (BASMIDA) of Brunei Darussalam yesterday called on Muslims to jointly create happy families by strengthening their Islamic faith in accordance with the national philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy (MIB).
The President of BASMIDA, Datin Hajah Masni binti Haji Mohammad Ali said this while delivering a speech yesterday at a motivational talk organised by BASMIDA in conjunction with National Family Day 2016, which dealt with the topic, ‘Strengthening the Islamic family institution to prevent drug abuse, Internet abuse, other addictions as well as cybercrimes’.
In her speech, Datin Hajah Masni said, “The link between the growing fragility of the family institution and the effects of drug abuse, misuse of the Internet, pornography addiction and domestic violence can no longer be doubted now in the era of globalisation without borders,” she continued.
“For us, the Muslim community in the countries of Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, the attack of thoughts that contradict Islam has brought a small percentage of Muslim youths towards thought patterns of humanism, pluralism and liberalism,” she continued.
She said that studies conducted among youths in neighbouring countries show that a small number possess views that are contrary to Islam and are feared could, in the future, dilute the identity of youth.
“The feminist agenda and efforts to legalise the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) will destroy the identity of Muslim women, threaten the sanctity of marriage between men and women as well as destroy and undermine the individuality and cultural identity of Muslim women,” she said.
She highlighted that Islam honours and gives respect to women and puts the dignity of women at a high level in accordance with the nature and role of women themselves as servants of Allah the Almighty.
She noted that the thinking of humanism was first introduced in the West scientifically in 1766-1848, and was taught in secondary schools, adding that it recommends that they hold human rights and stands as philosophical thought.
“Now humanism puts humans at the liberty to decide and deny the importance of religion or the existence of God,” she said. “Thoughts like these have strengthened the movement in western countries, as well as Australia and Canada to legalise drugs, which are regulated under national law and international law as determined by the United Nations.”
In conjunction with the National Family Day 2016, Datin Hajah Masni called on Bruneian Muslims to follow the guidance of “MIB and practice the Islamic way of life in a Zikir Nation” to create happy families.
