HER Majesty Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha binti Al-Marhum Pengiran Pemancha Pengiran Anak Haji Mohamed Alam yesterday graced the Girl Guides Day celebration held at the Muzakarah Hall of the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas.
Her Majesty, as the Royal Patron of the Girl Guides Association of Brunei Darussalam (PPPBD), was greeted upon arrival by the Chief Commissioner of the association, Hajah Hafsah binti Haji Abdul Halim and members of the PPPBD.
Accompanying Her Majesty to the event were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Raabi’atul Adawiyyah binti Pengiran Haji Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah, in her capacity as the President of the PPPBD; Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Majeedah Nuurul Bolkiah; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Vice-President of the PPPBD.
The ceremony began with the singing of the national anthem followed by recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and reading of Doa Kesyukuran led by Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abd Ghani, Commissioner of Spiritual of the association.
In her welcoming address, Hajah Siti Hafsah said the association has successfully organised their annual and sides activities that were included in its 2017 annual plan with excellent participation of their members at all levels including at the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne.
The chief commissioner also thanked Her Majesty’s continuous support to all activities organised by the association.
For this year, she added, the association has taken a further step in their Development and Progress Project such as the Green Fingers project in which it is a continuous project carried out in colleges, sixth form centres and secondary schools with participation of 60 members of Girl Guides from seven schools in the Brunei-Muara and Tutong districts.
The ceremony witnessed Her Majesty presenting the Girl Guides Special Appreciation Awards for six members who have continuously assisted the association in implementing and organising religious, international and community programmes and activities and Excellent Green Fingers Awards as well as presentation of gold and bronze badges for their long service contribution in the association.
Receiving the Girl Guides Special Awards 2017 were Hajah Viviyanti binti Haji Ali for her international activities contribution; Hajah Fatimah binti Haji Abdul Ghani for her religious activities contribution; Hajah Ma’ani binti Haji Lamat for her community activities contribution. Two members of the association who received gold badges for contributing 20 years of service to the association were Kaniz binti Abdul Shakoor and Damit binti Mohd Salleh. Receiving bronze badges for contributing 10 years of service to the association was Norasimah binti Haji Salleh.
For the Excellent Green Finger Project three coordinators – Hajah Napsiah binti Haji Mohammad, Hajah Siti Mariam binti Haji Abdullah and Nasriah binti Awang Nasib – received the awards, while Girl Guides leaders who carried out the project Hajah Norlelawati binti Haji Abu Bakar from Pengiran Anak Puteri Hajah Masna Secondary School and Hajah Nurulainah binti Haji Abdul Halim from Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls’ Arabic Secondary School also received the awards.
The highlight of the celebration was Her Majesty cutting a birthday cake in conjunction with Her Majesty’s birthday, and receiving a pesambah from members of the association.
Before departing, Her Majesty and members of the royal family received greetings from members of the association and took a tour of the mini exhibition of the Green Fingers Project.
The Girl Guides Day was celebrated in conjunction with Her Majesty’s birthday to appreciate the members for their long service contribution, to display activities and projects that have been carried out by the association and to foster closer ties among its members.
