LEADING by example in keeping the natural environment clean, Minister of Home Affairs Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong yesterday morning helped out in the Muara Beach cleanup held for the Pesta Santai Muara 2017 beach festival.
Pesta Santai Muara 2017 (PSM 2017) is jointly organised by the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) and Brunei-Muara District Office, Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA) – both part of the organising committee for the Golden Jubilee Celebration of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s Accession to the Throne – together with the village consultative councils of Kampong Masjid Lama, Pekan Muara, Sabun and Pelumpong (MPK Muara).
After launching the event, the minister took part in the warm up aerobic session together with some 100 other participants before joining them in the beach cleanup.
Also in attendance were Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohammad Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the MoHA; Dr Haji Abdul Manaf bin Haji Metussin, Permanent Secretary at the MPRT; Haji Idris bin Haji Md Ali and Haji Mohammad Sunadi bin Haji Buntar, Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the MoHA; and Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) at the MPRT.
Some 40 booths selling local products and offering games and fun activities are set up in the two-day festival, which runs until today.
The minister took the time to tour the booths and tried out the games and spoke to the vendors.
Free parking and shuttle services are provided for the festival from 7am to 6pm at three locations, namely the Marine and Ports Authorities car park area, Setia Ali Mosque Pekan Muara car park area, and the Muara Health Centre car park area (for Sunday only).
The PSM 2017 organising committee advised members of the general public to take appropriate measures to protect themselves from the sun (ie by wearing hats and sunglasses, and using umbrellas and sunscreen) and keep themselves hydrated throughout the day.
The public have also been reminded to take care of their family members and belongings whereabouts at all times during the event, and to keep Muara Beach clean as a collective societal responsibility.
