HIS Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, who arrived in the Republic of the Philippines yesterday for the 31st Asean Summit and Related Summits conducted until tomorrow, attended a bilateral meeting with Rodrigo Roa Duterte, President of the Republic of the Philippines and Chairman of Asean, later in the evening. The bilateral meeting was held at the SMX Convention Center.
During the bilateral meeting, His Majesty and Duterte exchanged views on regional and international matters of mutual concerns as well as bilateral cooperations between Brunei Darussalam and the Republic of the Philippines.
Present during the bilateral meeting were Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Haji Ibrahim, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Finance II; Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng, Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade II; and Hajah Johariah binti Haji Abdul Wahab, Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to the Republic of the Philippines.
Accompanying the President of the Republic of the Philippines to the meeting were Alan Peter Cayetano, Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs; Carlos Dominguez III, Secretary of the Department of Finance; Delfin Lorenzana, Secretary of the Department of National Defence; Ramon Lopez, Secretary of the Department of Trade and Industry; Secretary Christopher Lawrence Go, Special Assistant to the President; as well as Meynardo LB Montealegre, Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam. Earlier, upon arrival in Manila, His Majesty was greeted by Marciano A Paynor Jr, Director-General for Operations of the Asean 2017 National Organizing Council (NOC).
Also present were Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Dewa Dato Seri Setia Lim Jock Seng and Hajah Johariah binti Haji Abdul Wahab.
His Majesty was then introduced to Sonny Dominguez, Finance Secretary as representative of the President of the Republic of the Philippines; and Meynardo LB Montealegre.
His Majesty then boarded a motorcade heading to a renowned hotel in Manila where His Majesty will reside throughout the summit.
‘Partnering for Change, Engaging the World’, Asean’s theme this year reflects the support of the host country in promoting unity between the Asean member states as well as its global partners.
The 31st Asean Summit and Related Summits will gather the Asean heads of government and state as well as dialogue partners and representatives of the United
Nations (UN) in discussing dynamic and vibrant matters significant for the well-being of communities.
As His Majesty left Istana Nurul Iman earlier, a Doa Selamat was recited by Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned, the State Mufti.
Present at His Majesty the Sultan’s Flight Hangar to bid farewell were His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Malik; His Royal Highness Prince ‘Abdul Wakeel; His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Sufri Bolkiah; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah; Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah; and Her Royal Highness Princess Hajah Masna, Ambassador-at-Large at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
Also present were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria; Cabinet Ministers; members of the Privy Council; deputy ministers; the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces; and the Commissioner of Police.
