THE two-day Asean Digital Radio Broadcasting workshop hosted by Radio Television Brunei (RTB) was officiated at the Kiulap Plaza Hotel yesterday.

Officiating the workshop was Haji Muhammad Suffian bin Haji Bungsu, Director of RTB.

In his welcoming remarks, he said that it is the right time for Asean member countries to work together in exploring the implementation of digital radio broadcasting for the region.

“Despite many benefits of digital radio broadcasting technologies and reports on its success stories, there are certainly challenges to be considered for its implementation, in particular on the economic and social impact,” he said.

“We are delighted to have very prominent speakers with us, sharing their broad experience and expertise. It is only by working together that we can achieve our common goals.”

The speakers, well known in the field of digital radio broadcasting technology, were invited to present on the advancements in digital radio technology, the status of its users across the world and the challenges and implications of its implementation.

The workshop is attended by 27 representatives from Asean member countries comprising policymakers, regulators, and senior officers responsible in planning and implementing the digital radio broadcasting systems in their countries.

Digital Radio Broadcasting is a priority policy issue for Asean Senior Officials Responsible for Information (SOMRI) Working-Group on Asean Digital Broadcasting (WG-ADB). The two-day workshop is a platform to share experience and knowledge between Asean member countries towards the implementation of digital radio broadcasting.

The workshop discussed information, latest trends and standards of digital radio broadcast system technology. It is hoped that a proposal on the standard of digital radio which is uniform and compatible for Asean member countries can be produced.
