YB PEHIN Orang Kaya Seri Lela Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman bin Dato Setia Haji Mohamed Taib, the Speaker of the Legislative Council (LegCo), following an invitation from the Speaker of the Kuwait National Assembly, recently made a formal visit to Kuwait with four other LegCo members and several other officials from the Legislative Council.
The formal visit included an audience ceremony with His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait. Also present was Pengiran Haji Mustapa bin Pengiran Haji Aliuddin, the Ambassador of Brunei Darussalam to Kuwait.
Among issues discussed were the strong ties between both countries – Brunei Darussalam and Kuwait – and the close relations the Emir has with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam.
The Emir of Kuwait also conveyed his congratulatory wishes to His Majesty on the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty’s Accession to the Throne. The Emir also hoped that the working visit will run smoothly with productive results.
The Speaker of the LegCo and delegation then made a courtesy call to His Highness Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait.
During the goodwill visit, both sides discussed cooperative bilateral issues in the hope of enhancing and reinforcing current ties especially for the benefit of development between both countries on cooperation in various fields.
The delegation then made a courtesy visit to Marzouq Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Kuwait National Assembly. During the visit, both sides agreed to share and exchange ideas and make working visits between both parliaments – Brunei’s Legislative Council and the Kuwait National Assembly.
They also made a courtesy visit to His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister of Kuwait from 2006-2011 at his residence.
The delegation then made another courtesy visit to Ali Mohammed Thunayan Al-Ghanem, Chairman of Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry where the country has shown an interest in exploring investment opportunities in Brunei Darussalam.
The Kuwait Chamber of Commerce and Industry has no bilateral cooperation with the Brunei Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the visit is hoped to be a door of entry for investors from Kuwait to hold further discussions in the future.
