THE Survey Department under the Ministry of Development and Dart Logistics Sdn Bhd jointly celebrated World GIS Day 2017 by hosting games and activities during the Bandarku Ceria programme at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien yesterday.
World GIS Day is celebrated every year in the third week of November. This year it is themed ‘Discovering the World Through GIS.’ Various activities are being held around the world by GIS users to commemorate the event. It is a great opportunity for GIS users to share, collaborate and showcase the uses of GIS to non-users of GIS.
In recent years, the Survey Department has held GIS workshops, exhibitions and activities involving students and officers from both the government and private sectors.
This year, in collaboration with Dart, the celebration aims to raise GIS awareness among the public through fun games and activities, which included ‘Piece the Puzzle,’ ‘Sort the Kampung Names,’ ‘Meneka Nama Bangunan & Jalan Raya,’ ‘Label the Place,’ ‘Meneka Jarak & Planet,’ ‘Magic Box’ and a photo booth.
Surveyor General Haji Ali Bakar bin Haji Kasim officiated the event, following which Dart founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Zul ‘Amali bin Dato Paduka Haji Idris put on a demonstration.
Dart is a local technology company that provides an app allowing users to book rides from taxis and partnered drivers, along with customer support for technical problems. The application can be downloaded from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
