SIX primary students, accompanied by three officials, departed yesterday for Singapore to participate in the 14th International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO 2017) at the NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (NUS HSMS).
The Olympiad, which concludes on November 24, is organised by the Singapore Ministry of Education and NUS HSMS.
The programme, themed ‘Smart, Skilled and Creative in a Joyful Competition for Excellence’, is implemented by the Singapore Ministry of Education and NUS High School of Mathematics and Science at the primary school level.
The participants are from Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, South Africa, Thailand, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, the Netherlands, Nigeria, and Tajikistan.
The Science, Technology and Environment Partnership (STEP) Centre of the Ministry of Education is coordinating the local delegation’s participation.
The four-day programme aims to improve elementary school students’ competencies in mathematics and science as well as foster friendly relations.
