BRUNEI’S national wushu athletes yesterday left the country to compete in the 4th China-Asean Wushu Festival Invitational 2017 at Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China from November 26-28.The visit is to prepare for the 18th Asian Games next year.
Led by national coach Li Hui, the team comprised Md Adi Salihin bin Roslan who will compete in Nan Quan and Nan Dao, Nur Batrisyia binti Ripin who will take part in Nandao and Nanquan, Fautina Woo Wai Sai who will take part in Nan Quan and Nan Gun while Hosea Wong Zheng Yu will be joining Taijiquan and Tajijian.
In an interview, Li Hui said, “This will be Md Adi Salihin’s last competition for this year and this is Fautina Woo Wai Sai’s first competition after recovering from her injury.”
He hoped that the athletes will make good use of the competition to gain much needed experience for the Asian Games.
Li Hui who has been training national wushu athletes for 10 years also lauded the rapid development of wushu in Brunei. Brunei is gaining reputation in the global and regional wushu scene.
He cited the recent 7th World Kungfu Championship held in Emeishan, China from November 7-11 where the Brunei wushu team earned applause and commendation from officials in the competition. There were more than 3,000 wushu athletes from 57 countries competing in the international level competition.
With Brunei’s achievement in wushu, he conveyed his gratitude to the government of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam and Brunei Wushu Federation for the continuous support.
