SOME 30 students and teachers from Alif School were invited to listen to a literature piece titled ‘Misteri Jong Batu’ by Haji Mohd Firdaus bin Orang Kaya Kaya Haji Noordin, a local author and poet, at the SEAMEO Voctech Regional Centre recently.
Organised by SEAMEO Voctech, the session aimed to increase students’ interest in reading local books and provide them an opportunity to learn more about the history of Brunei.
Present at the event were Nasser Al Hadji, a special guest from the Sultanate of Oman; participants from Mabohai Primary School, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School, Politeknik Brunei and Pouria Company; and SEAMEO Voctech management staff and employees.
The session saw an hour-long recital of the ‘Misteri Jong Batu’ literature piece and a 10-minute action and poetry performance from the Academy of UF, a local company owned by Haji Mohd Firdaus. He also presented a copy of a children’s book which he authored to the attending students to encourage them to read, promote literature and start writing books at an early age.
The event ended with the presentation of a certificate of recognition to the speaker and a group photo session.
