IDENTIFYING the characteristics of a deviant movement, or cult, was the topic of the pre-dawn religious talk at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque in the capital, yesterday.

The talk was delivered by Ustaz Ahmad Haziq bin Haji Abdul Hamid, the Head of the Halal Food Control Division at the Syariah Affairs Department, who said that among the main traits are practices contrary to Islamic teachings and excessive devotion to a group leader.

The Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang, and the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administrative and Financial Affairs) at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, were present among the mosque congregation at the weekly programme.

Initiated by the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA), through its Mosque Affairs Department, the Islamic Da’wah Centre and the Islamic Syiar Development Division, the programme aims to encourage the presence of more worshippers for mass Subuh prayer at the Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque.

In addition, it also provides an opportunity for the Muslim participants of Bandarku Ceria to begin their day in spiritual contemplation and prayer, before joining in the physical activities.
