New women empowering organisation WIN launched

THE Women’s Initiatives and Network (WIN) was launched during a ceremony at Cultivate Bistro, Progresif Building yesterday.

WIN envisions to develop a population of women in Brunei who are empowered intellectually, physically, mentally and spiritually so that they can excel in their relevant fields, and a mission of providing the support needed in women-related issues to ensure that women are able to play an active role in the community.

The ceremony was officiated by the founder and Chairman of WIN, Nurizzatul Izzah binti Haji Abdul Rahman. Present at the event were YB Nik Hafimi binti Abdul Haadii, YB Khairunnisa binti Haji Ash’ari and YB Iswandy bin Ahmad, members of the Legislative Council (LegCo).

The newly established organisation marked the beginning of their journey with a forum entitled ‘If Women Are Empowered’. The forum panellists – comprising YB Siti Rozaimeriyanty binti Dato Seri Laila Jasa Haji Abdul Rahman, member of the LegCo and Nurliyana Fatin binti Arifin, recipient of the Excellent Youth Award 2017 – touched on their definition of ‘empowered women’ and what can be done to fill the gaps in women issues.

The panellists shared the importance of effective communication – be it among women or men; on unity between different organisations of all age groups; and on overcoming weaknesses.
