AS PART of a collective drive to give back to the community, La Vida Association of Brunei Darussalam, a local non-governmental organisation (NGO) recently visited Pengiran Setia Negara Pengiran Mohd Yusof Primary School (SRPSNPMY) to present donations to 95 students of Years 1 to 6.
The drive was co-organised by the school, La Vida Association of Brunei Darussalam and various local NGOs, including Lotus Light Charity Society and Wan Fu Charity.
Donated items included school bags, reusable water bottles, school stationery, as well as health food vouchers.
Representing La Vida to hand out the contributions to the students and their parents was the association’s manager, Dawn Lee.
“This donation is an annual event for us. Previously, we visited the Temburong District to conduct similar charitable activities,” Lee explained to the Bulletin.
The contribution to SRPSN PMY students was the first time La Vida had made donations in the Belait District. The association has also previously presented contributions in the Tutong District.
“We had plans to make donations to SRPSNPMY since last year, and we have been working closely with the school to determine what the students need for their new school year,” Lee noted.
“The donation serves not only to lessen the burden of the students and parents for the beginning of the new academic year, but also to motivate the students to attend school.
“When the students start their new school year, it can be a bit demotivating for them to reuse the same bags and stationary from last year, which is why we donated the new bags, bottles and stationery to freshen things up a little for the new school year and motivate them to attend school.”
Lee highlighted that the donation also provided an opportunity for the organisations involved to interact with and strengthen relations between one another, the students and staff members of the school.
Members of Lotus Light Charity Society and Wan Fu Charity were also in attendance.
