THE ‘Sensation, Windows to Her World’ art exhibition was recently held at Seri Q-Lap Mall in Kiulap, showcasing the works of a number of local women painters. Various genres and styles of painting were featured, including realistic painting and modern contemporary.
A large number of paintings were sold during the exhibition, a testament to the quality of the works and a glowing reflection of the skill of the female painters.
Several side activities were also held at the event such as a doodling painting competition, colouring competition and a ‘Study in Australia’ logo designing contest.
Present at the event as chief guest to hand prizes to the exhibition winners was Dato Paduka Haji Shofry bin Haji Abdul Ghafor, Chairperson of the Brunei Art Forum.
Josie Abdullah, senior business development manager (Brunei/Sabah) at the Australia Trade and Investment Commission, handed prizes to winners of the ‘Study in Australia’ logo contest.
There was also a donation of painting materials to Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al -Hajjah Maryam, Kampong Bengkurong branch.
According to Yayasan Seni Zakaria Omar chairperson Umi Zaty binti Zakaria, an exhibition such as this helps foster closer ties among women painters and nurtures a healthy culture of organising group exhibitions.
The appearance of veteran artists such as Datin Maimuna binti CA Mohamed, Siti Zaleha binti Kafrawi and Siti Roziana binti Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yunos brought a blue ribbon vibe to the event.
The trio, who shared their experiences with junior artists at the exhibition, had established an arts club called ‘Hers, All Women Artist’ (HAWA) which serves as gathering point for both local and foreign women artists residing in Brunei Darussalam.
