THE Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs, Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Abdul Mokti bin Haji Mohd Daud, made a working visit to two schools in the Belait District yesterday to monitor the registration of new students for the academic term of 2018.
The deputy minister was accompanied by Haji Mohd Serudin bin Haji Timbang, the Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA); and Roslan bin Haji Taja’ah, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the MoRA.
The deputy minister’s first call was at the Belait Arabic School, where he was welcomed by Hajah Noramalina binti Haji Md Ali, the school’s Headmistress and Hajijah binti Haji Moktal, the Acting Director of the Islamic Studies Department (JPI).
At present, the Belait Arabic School has 24 teachers and 179 students in Years 5 to 8.
While visiting the school, the deputy minister toured several classes in session and witnessed classroom activities.
Among those from the MoRA delegation was Ustaz Haji Shamshol bin Haji Omar, the Acting Assistant Director of the Learning Institute at JPI, who said that 24 students have just entered the school in Year 5 to pursue Arabic Language curriculum.
“The visit is one of the efforts made by the MoRA in ensuring the smooth management of Arabic and religious schools, particularly those in the Belait District,” he said.
“We also strive to improve the existing curriculum and initiatives by receiving feedback from the schools as well as from the students and parents. This allows us to educate the students more effectively according to the syllabus at their respective schools.”
The deputy minister and his delegation next visited the Pengiran Anak Puteri Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Religious School in Seria, where they were received by Hajah Zahrah binti Yahya, the school’s Headmistress, and the Acting Director of the JPI.
The school currently has 22 teachers and 577 students in kindergarten to Year 6.
After a tour of the school and its facilities, the deputy minister gave several recommendations on how to improve the existing curriculum and activities.
The Belait District has recorded a total of 339 boys and 328 girls in kindergarten level at Arabic and religious schools, with five non-Muslims among the new intake for 2018.
