DPMM FC have not closed the door on the possibility of playing in either the Malaysian league or Indonesia top flight Liga 1 after expressing their hopes of participation in the 2019 season, through their website.
The ‘Gegar Gegar’ men are poised to play in the S League this season after performing a U-turn having been linked to a move away from the city-state to Indonesia.
The move did not materialise similar to their planned move to the Malaysia Super League when strict conditions made it difficult to reach a conclusion.
However, after announcing through their website that they hope to move to a different league, it is likely that the 2015 S League winners will resume their interest at the end of this season.
The Brunei-based outfit has installed newly-appointed Brazilian manager Rene Weber to succeed Steve Kean.
Weber boasted considerable experience in his homeland as an assistant coach for a trio of reputable clubs namely Vasco Da Gama, Atletico Mineiro and Sao Paulo.
At the international level, he guided the Brazil national under-20 team to a third-place finish in the 2005 FIFA Youth Championship.
According to the club’s website, the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) is also considering allowing DPMM FC to sign four foreign players.
The country’s professional club has always established good relations with FAS since they joined Singapore top flight and FAS has already voiced their support despite the uncertainty of their future.
FAS President Lim Kia Tong said in a previous report: “We made it clear that Singapore, in particular the FAS, has always treasured their participation in our league.”
Should they be allowed four foreign players, it will further enhance the club’s ability to perform competitively.
DPMM FC are also on the lookout for new foreign imports following the departures of the much-prolific Rafael Ramazotti, Daud Gazale and Vincent Salas.
Following the revamp of the S League that took into effect this season, the selected players must undergo a Yo-Yo test, which is more suitable to the demands of the game, replacing the mandatory 2.4km fitness test.
DPMM FC have broken into foreign shores once in the Malaysia Premier League in the 2005-06 season before biding their time in Singapore where they have been playing ever since.
