A TOTAL of 53 graduates from the Institut Tahfiz Al-Quran Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (ITQSHHB) are certified ‘Hafiz’, which means that the institute has achieved its main goal of producing skilled Al-Quran readers, said Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs.
The minister was speaking on the sidelines of a working visit to the ITQSHHB yesterday, to observe the registration process for the new student intake of 2018.
“The ITQSHHB is an institute for students to memorise, read, learn, and practise 30 Juzuk from Al-Quran for five years,” he told the Bulletin.
“Every lesson must have a progression, including the Tajwid (fluency), and Hafazan (memorisation). After five years, they will be examined by the National Tasmie’ Al-Quran Memorisation Board, which determines whether one becomes a Hafiz of 30, 20, 15, 10 or five Juzuk.”
The minister was welcomed by Pengiran Haji Amiruddin bin Pengiran Damit, the Acting Principal of ITQSHHB.
The minister interacted with the new intake of 84 students, after which he was taken on a tour of the hostel block for male students.
This year, 47 girls and 37 boys have been enrolled as Year 7 students at the ITQSHHB.
The registration process for new male students took place at the multipurpose hall of the male hostel block, while the new female students were registered at the female hostel in Jalan Ong Sum Ping.
The students’ daily routine at the ITQSHBB is designed to instil them with discipline and independence, while at the same time providing an environment conducive to the learning of Al-Quran and academic studies.
