HAVING won the Korean Pro-Golfing Association (PGA) Rookie Golf Championship at The Empire Hotel Golf & Country Club on Wednesday, 20-year-old Ho You Jung earned his way to compete in the major Korean Pro-Golfing Association Tournament this year, after outgunning the rest of the field to emerge as the top rookie in the Korean golf scene.
Ho You Jung had a difficult run in the tournament as he had to win two playoff matches in the round of 16 and quarter final to reach the semifinal.
“It’s an honour to win the championship being held in Brunei Darussalam for the first time. The first few days were quite challenging because of the wind and rain. Fortunately, the situation had a heavier impact on my rivals.”
Asked on his thoughts of the golf course, he said, “It’s a tricky and beautiful golf course. The scenic view at Hole 15 and Hole 18 is remarkable. I would love to come back here to compete again.”
With the win, he hoped it will boost his career and confidence in future competitions.
Ho Lee Yoo was in second place.
Chairman of Welcome Financial Group, Son Jong Ju and Chief Executive Officer of Money Today Broadcasting, Yu Seung Ho presented the prizes.
James Park, President of Sinar Tour Sdn Bhd and Nigel Badminton, General Manager of Empire Hotel and Country Club were also present.
The competition was organised by local travel agency, Sinar Tours in partnership with Brunei Tourism and The Empire Hotel & Country Club, among others.
