THE Brunei Darussalam Teachers Academy (BDTA) yesterday held a meeting with government school leaders for Cluster 1, Cluster 2, Cluster 3 and school leaders of Arabic schools in Brunei-Muara and Temburong districts.
Among the objectives of the meeting were to focus on the roles, functions and support provided by BDTA for the professional development of teachers; to fulfil expectation of schools on the roles and responsibilities of BDTA; and empower and foster closer relation with schools.
Dr Norhijrah binti Haji Ahmad, Acting Assistant Director of Human Resources Development Division at the Ministry of Education, in an interview said the meeting with school leaders aimed to share information on courses being offered and registration procedures.
Haji Metusin bin Haji Jais, Head of Cluster 2 of the Department of Schools, said they always co-operate with BDTA to identify professional needs of teachers. At the same time, he added, the clusters also identify special skills in teaching and learning.
Sixty courses are offered at the academy which are divided into eight main subjects – Malay, English, Mathematics, Technology Enhanced Learning Environment (TELE) which is a course related to technology and education, Islamic Religious Knowledge and General Course (pedagogy, science and special education).
A second session of the meeting will be held tomorrow for schools in Cluster 4, Cluster 5, Cluster 6 and Arabic schools in Tutong and Belait districts.
