OVER 1,000 staff from Hua Ho Department stores nationwide gathered to pay their respects to Pehin Kapitan China Kornia Diraja Dato Paduka Lau Ah Kok at the funeral service ceremony at his residence in Kampong Sungai Akar.
Present at the funeral service ceremony were Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi bin Haji Osman, the Minister of Education; Legislative Council member YB Ong Tiong Oh, Pehin Kapitan Lela Diraja Dato Paduka Goh King Chin, prominent figures in the local Chinese community and the public. Families of Pehin Kapitan China Kornia Diraja Dato Paduka Lau Ah Kok continued his legacy of giving by presenting donations to 37 associations, Chinese schools and NGOs.
Among the recipients were the Brunei-Muara District Orphans Fund, Society for the Management of Autism Related issues in Training, Education and Resources (SMARTER) Brunei, Centre for Children with Special Needs (KACA), Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam and the Seria Old Folks Home.
On behalf of the Chen Fu-Hai Kinmen County Government Magistrate, Ning Gou Ping, Senior Executive Officer of Kinmen County with officials arrived in Brunei on Wednesday to attend Pehin Kapitan China Kornia Diraja Dato Paduka Lau Ah Kok’s funeral. Ning Gou Ping said, “We are saddened by the passing of Pehin Kapitan China Kornia Diraja Dato Paduka Lau Ah Kok who came from Kinmen. He presented numerous deeds and contributions to schools and temples in Kinmen.”
Led by a vehicle from Adat Istiadat Negara Department, the funeral procession began from Pehin Kapitan China Kornia Diraja Dato Paduka Lau Ah Kok’s residence in Kampong Sungai Akar to Bandar Seri Begawan before proceeding to the burial ground at Berakas cemetery.
