FIFTY solo exhibitions and 140 group exhibitions – featuring the works of over 100 Korean artists – are being staged at The Empire Hotel & Country Club as part of the Korean Art Festival, which was officially launched yesterday.
Present at the launch as the guest of honour were Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof and Korean Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Cho Won Myung.
Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) at the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT) Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, Brunei Art Forum President Dato Paduka Haji Shofry bin Haji Abdul Ghafor, Korean Fine Arts Association President Lee Bum Hun, chair of the festival’s planning committee Kim Bo Yeon, chair of the festival’s steering committee Min Han Gi, and chair of the festival’s executive committee Yoon Woo Hong were also present.
The festival – jointly organised by the Korean Fine Arts Association, Brunei Art Forum, Creative Space Brunei and the Korean Embassy in Brunei Darussalam, and facilitated by Sinar Tour Sdn Bhd – will run until January 18.
During the launch, a number of Korean artists were presented with awards in recognition of their creativity.
Yang Jung Hwa and Kim Ho Sung both received the Great Excellence Award from Lee Bum Heon.
Shin Hyun Dae, Jung Heng Ja, Jang Mi Young and Shim Jeong Oh were each presented with the Excellence Award by Kim Bo Yeon.
Meanwhile, Kim Bo Yeon received the Plaque of Merit Award, which was presented by Lee Bum Heon.
Following the award presentation, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports went on to tour the exhibition and speak with the artists.
