KOTA Ranger FC kept their slim hopes of winning the DST Super League title alive after trouncing Wijaya FC 4-0 at the Berakas Sports Complex on Sunday night.
The remaining title contender other than frontrunners MS ABDB registered their 14th victory of the season to take them within four points of the army personnel with a game in hand.
MS ABDB currently lie top of the table with 49 points while Kota Ranger are taking big steps of catching them with 45 points.
The first half ended goalless with Kota Ranger left frustrated but Md Faiz Farhan bin Kamat calmed their nerves with the opening goal of the game in the 51st minute.
Abu Suffian bin Haji Adanan doubled his side’s lead in the 53rd minute while Md Amalul Ariffin Shah bin Said was also on the score-sheet in the 56th minute.
Abu Suffian added gloss to the win with his second of the game in the 76th minute.
Second-placed Kota Ranger must beat MS PDB, whose game on January 7 was postponed, to remain in contention for the title heading to the last day of the season.
MS ABDB, who are gunning for a third successive Super League title, will be crowned champions if they beat Indera SC in their last game of the season.
In other news, Indera SC, who are already guaranteed third spot, were held to a 2-2 draw by Lun Bawang FC.
Tabuan Muda also kept their hopes of a top-six finish alive after beating basement dwellers Jerudong FC 5-0.
Tabuan Muda’s first opportunity to do so will be against fourth-placed Kasuka at the Tutong Sports Complex tomorrow.
On the other hand, Kasuka can seal a top-four finish if they take all three points.
