LORENA United FC sealed their third successive BMI Super Cup crown after edging Seminor Borneo FC 2-1 in the final at the Balapan Track and Field of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex on Sunday.
Lorena made the breakthrough against the run of play at half-time after a pass from the edge of the box was met by a team-mate who coolly slotted the ball home from close range.
Seminor stunned the reigning holders after they equalised a minute later Miftahul Choiri bundled the ball home.
However, Hendrik Wibowo stepped up with the winner in the second half after tapping home a low cross.
Guest of honour, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi bin Haji Mohd Yussof, presented the prizes.
Some 500 supporters from the Indonesian community watched the match despite the wet conditions.
The final also saw welcoming remarks by Arko Hananto Budiadi, a representative from the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Brunei Darussalam.
A total of 16 teams participated in the competition – namely Kalbar FC, Garuda FC, Putra Lampung FC, Wiralodra FC, Monaerangga FC, Pandawa Koci FC, Rinjani FC, Lorena United FC, East Star FC, Pasundan United FC, Nusantara FC, Barsa FC, Matrix FC, Borneo FC, Seminor Borneo FC and Bws FC.
Approximately 17,000 Indonesian nationals are employed in the country in various fields including construction.
