EIGHTY wheelchairs were donated by Hua Ho Department Store to the Ministry of Health (MoH) yesterday, to be distributed across hospitals and clinics nationwide.
Lau Soon Hau and Lau Soon Tiong, the grandchildren of late Pehin Kapitan China Kornia Diraja Dato Paduka Lau Ah Kok, handed over the donation on behalf of Hua Ho Department Store.
The handover ceremony took place at the Women and Children’s Centre of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital.
The donation was received by Haji Abdul Manap bin Othman, Permanent Secretary at the MoH.
Also present at the ceremony were Maswadi bin Haji Mohsin, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Management) at the Moh; Dr Haji Zulaidi bin Haji Abdul Latif, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Professional) at the MoH and Pengiran Dr Haji Md Khalifah bin Haji Ismail, Director General of Medical and Health Services.
Besides being well known for his rag-to-riches story, the founder of Hua Ho Department Stores is also known as a philanthropist who had donated to numerous associations and non-profit organisations in the country.
The grandsons of late Pehin Kapitan China Kornia Diraja Dato Paduka Lau Ah Kok said their late grandfather’s spirit of generosity in assisting the underprivileged in Brunei Darussalam will be continued through the family and Hua Ho Group of Companies.
