YAYASAN Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (YSHHB) yesterday held a community cleanup at the premises of the National Housing Scheme (RPN) Kampong Lambak Kanan Mosque.
The spruce up was carried out by members of the Takmir mosque committee, Muslimah members of RPN Kampong Lambak Kanan Mosque, and volunteers from YSHHB – through its Community Assistance and Emergencies Project.
Nineteen undergraduates from Universiti Teknologi Mara Cawangan Johor, Kampus Segamat of Johor, Malaysia also stepped forward to lend a helping hand. The undergraduates are in Brunei as part of their university corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme dubbed ‘Programme Peers Travelogue Asia.’
Attending as the guest of honour was Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof, a member of the YSHHB Board of Directors and member of the YSHHB Volunteers Committee.
The Malaysian students were given a brief tour of the mosque and enlightened on Brunei culture.
Nursafarah binti Ismail, director of the Programme Peers Travelogue Asia, said the undergrads’ visit is part of their annual CSR programme activities to promote the spirit of voluntarism by engaging in community activities with village residents.
She explained that they had held similar programmes in Cambodia and Indonesia, with Brunei being chosen for their visit this year.
“For the majority of us, we are beyond excited to be here in Brunei as this is our first time. To be here, to experience the Brunei culture and traditions is beyond amazing. We would like to express our deepest appreciation to YSHHB for providing us such a wonderful opportunity,” she said.
