THE first Kuala Belaitku (KBKu) Ceria of 2018 held on the night of January 27 and yesterday morning was met with excitement, as the two-day event saw many activities as well as various small and medium enterprises (SMEs) setting up stalls along the Silver Jubilee Park and the closure of roads surrounding the park.
KBKu Ceria is held for residents and tourists to enjoy the sights and sounds of the district in addition to boosting the economy.
The event also gave the residents a good place to walk and cycle.
Programmes were carried out by the public and private sectors, schools and associations aimed at promoting their departments, with fun games and exhibitions.
KBKu Ceria also saw activities held to promote the importance of keeping a healthy lifestyle as well as maintaining the cleanliness of the surrounding areas, which included a night walk and beach clean up campaign.
For the night walk conducted on January 27, participants walked along a specially prepared route totalling six kilometres covering the various landmarks in Pekan Kuala Belait.
The beach cleanup campaign held yesterday morning, meanwhile, aimed to raise public awareness on the importance of keeping the surrounding environment clean and green.
Over 100 participated in the cleaning campaign organised by RYS Entertainment in conjunction with KBKu Ceria. Abdul Hazis bin Haji Ahad, the Acting Belait District Officer and guest of honour, officiated the campaign with the signing of a prepared plaque.
The beach cleanup campaign was held in line with the ‘Clean and Green Brunei’ and ‘Little Town with Big Hearts’ initiatives to strengthen community ties and the spirit of volunteering.
Cleaning tools and refreshment were provided to encourage more participation, with the volunteers including students from Politeknik Brunei, staff from CIC Environmental Services, Petrokon Utama, Art of Living, RYS Entertainment and residents of Belait District.
A few expatriates who volunteered for the cleaning campaign said that they love the beauty found along the beaches of the Belait District, and the campaign was an opportunity to appreciate that beauty by helping to clean up the beaches together.
Many residents participating in the campaign also became more environmentally conscious and they hoped that there will be more beach cleanup campaigns throughout the year.
Around 70 bags of rubbish weighing 300kg were collected.
