THE 70th royal birthday celebration committee members this year have been urged to be proactive, change their mindset and avoid a ‘business as usual’ attitude to ensure that the event is organised more creatively.
The call was made by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and a Patron of the National Executive Committee of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam’s 70th birthday celebration in his sabda at the 3rd Meeting of the National Executive Committee of the royal birthday celebration yesterday.
“We need to pull our resources optimally to enliven the uniqueness of the event. More importantly is the direct impact in strengthening the close and existing ties between the monarch and the people,” His Royal Highness said. “My father has given his consent to the dates for the ceremonies and core events for the upcoming 70th royal birthday celebration.”
“What is important now is for the committee involved to continue to cooperate and be committed to making preparations to ensure that all the events run smoothly and properly. I believe that with cooperation from all parties, the events will become a platform to strengthen the harmonious way of life through a close link between the ruler and the people, embrace the spirit of patriotism, show love towards the monarch and the nation and unite in upholding peace and prosperity of the nation,” His Royal Highness said.
“I believe with the commitment, determination, consultation and cooperation from all agencies in implementing the programme that have been arranged, this celebration will run smoothly. In this context, as a Patron of the National Executive Committee of the royal birthday celebration, I am grateful that my father attended the special meeting for the celebration on April 25. This is the manifestation of my father’s concern,” His Royal Highness further remarked.
On April 25, His Majesty stressed that all sorts of celebration must be thoroughly looked at, identifying its limitations and criteria and should not be done as one wishes or solely to satisfy the heart.
In a titah, His Majesty also said that there should be a limit to the celebration and not to do it lavishly. “If we are able to create a joyous atmosphere in moderation, it is adequate and good.”
His Majesty also touched on the need to avoid excessive spending as it could lead to wastage which is prohibited by the religion.
His Royal Highness added that it is the responsibility of the National Executive Committee to take serious note of the content of the titah through appropriate initiatives, actions and improvements.
His Royal Highness concluded by saying that as a Patron of the National Executive Committee, it is his hope that all committee members present at the meeting would give views and thoughts in glorifying and enhancing the quality and perfectness of the events of His Majesty’s 70th birthday celebration.
His Royal Highness was earlier greeted upon arrival by Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, the Minister of Home Affairs, as the Chairperson of the National Executive Committee for the royal birthday celebration.
