AL IDRUS SC followed the footsteps of their fellow team-mates Al Idrus FT after advancing to the semi-finals of the President Cup 2 following a nail-biting penalty shoot-out victory over Cle’as FT at the Public Works Department Football Field last weekend.
The second Al Idrus team came back from behind twice in a 2-2 draw to force the game into penalties before winning it in the end.
Pengiran Haji Md Sarrifudin bin Pengiran Damit gave Cle’as an early lead in the fifth minute but Al Idrus pegged back through Edi Ruslan bin Haji Abdul Samad in the 20th minute.
Pengiran Haji Md Sarrifudin grabbed his second of the match in the 28th minute to put Cle’as back in the lead but Md Rafie bin Haji Abdul Majid rescued his side from defeat in the 50th minute.
Al Idrus SC team manager Haji Mansur bin Haji Md Yassin affirmed that the best teams reached the quarterfinals and will no doubt make neat preparations with ambitions of making it to the final.
According to Haji Mansur, other than Al Idrus SC, teams such as AH United, PSJD, Terazza, Teruja and Jerudong also hold ambitions to win the President Cup 2, before adding that every team will give every ounce of effort to outwit each other.
“We will try to fight and make sure that we reach the final and I hope the commitment of every player to boost their stamina and improve every weakness before the semi-finals later,” said Haji Mansur in an interview with the media.
The team manager of Al Idrus FT Awangku Kanzul Shah bin Pengiran Haji Damit congratulated Al Idrus SC for reaching the last four of the competition.
Awangku Kanzul Shah’s side are also in the last four of the President Cup 1 and called his side to be prepared to face the daunting task of a tough semi-final tie.
Elaborating on his team’s title pursuit, he is well aware of the difficulty of the pathway in President Cup 1 as they will be meeting fine and challenging as well as competitive opponents.
“Hence, we have made the next plans for the semi-finals of President Cup 1 by arranging friendly matches as a warm-up and lifting the morale of the players,” he said.
