The official ceremony to hand over duty between Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih bin Abdullah, the outgoing Commander of the RBAF and Major General Pengiran Dato Seri Pahlawan Aminan took place at the Bolkiah Garrison yesterday.
During the ceremony, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih received the honorary salute and later inspected the guard of honour mounted by more than 400 personnel from various RBAF units that included Royal Brunei Land Force, Royal Brunei Navy, Royal Brunei Air Force, Training Institute RBAF as well as women military personnel commanded by Commander Sonny Iskandar bin Rasani.
In his farewell speech, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih expressed his gratitude to all members of the RBAF, whether in-service or retired, for all their support and cooperation throughout his service. He was the 9th Commander of the RBAF from January 30, 2014 to January 31, 2018.
“I have served the RBAF for over 35 years that were filled with tests, challenges as well as bitter and sweet memories,” he said.
“To date, the RBAF has always shown the ability to carry out its responsibilities and mandates in preserving and defending the sovereignty of the monarch, religion, race and nation.
“Furthermore, the RBAF has also shown commitment and support in safeguarding regional and global peace as well as security.
“What we achieved to date is the result of efforts and commitment from all members of the RBAF, including its former members, who have provided strong support to the RBAF in carrying out its duties to the monarch and the country. All the achievements we made have demonstrated that the RBAF can keep on moving forward.”
He reminded that “such efforts must be sustained by constantly adapting to current developments”.
Highlighting the need to enhance collaboration between local and foreign agencies, Pehin Datu Pekerma Jaya Major General Dato Paduka Seri Mohd Tawih said that the role of the RBAF is not limited to warfare alone; it also “plays a crucial part in supporting development, especially in addressing wider security issues generated by globalisation”.
