BRUNEI Darussalam darts player Pengiran Mohamed bin Pengiran Haji Matarsad extended his winning run in the regional scene after he and his team-mate Awangku Mohd Hamdi Pengiran Mashor emerged winners in the Borneo Darts Championship in Miri recently.
The duo, performing under the team Amazing KBT XD Green at the Steel Monkey Club, walked away with the coveted trophy.
Pengiran Mohammad, who became the first player to represent Brunei in the BDO World Darts Championship in the United Kingdom last month, earned his ticket after winning the qualifying tournament in Kuala Lumpur last year.
The local player, who was eliminated in the preliminary round following a 3-0 loss to former quarter-finalist Gary Robson, and Awangku Mohd Hamdi outlasted 64 teams to win the crown after beating AX Darters from Sibu in the final.
“We encountered challenges during the match but we played really well,” said Pengiran Mohamed.
The darts player, who earned the moniker D’Amazing, will be setting his sights on the Sabah Open next in April.
“I hope to move forward and make my country proud in darts and the Borneo team.
“We have to train diligently because that is the key to success other than keeping our discipline to ensure that we are constantly calm during matches regardless who we face,” he said.
Brunei carried the second largest contingent with 13 teams behind hosts Miri represented by 22 teams.
The other teams included nine from Kuching, seven each from Bintulu and Sibu, three from Sri Aman and one each from Limbang and Mukah.
All Star of Brunei also did the country proud after finishing as semi-finalists.
Ong Chai Fatt, owner of Steel Monkey Club, presented the prizes.
