UNIVERSITI Teknologi Brunei (UTB) yesterday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with four local education institutions – its ‘satellite partners’.
They are Kolej International Graduate Studies (KIGS), Kemuda Institute (KI), Micronet International College (MIC) and Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology (CCCT).
Present as witness was Professor Dr Hajah Zohrah binti Haji Sulaiman, Vice-Chancellor of UTB.
In her welcoming remarks, Dr Hajah Noor Maya binti Haji Mohd Salleh, Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of UTB explained that the MoU serves as a general framework for the establishment of cooperation between UTB and satellite partners through the delivery of foundation programmes in business, computing and sciences.
As a local institution, UTB is committed to ensure Bruneians have access to higher education and thus a pathway is created known as the ‘UTB-SP Foundation Programme’, she added.
“This will help students who do not have sufficient points at the ‘A’ Levels or International Baccalaureate but want to pursue a minimum of degree level,” Dr Hajah Noor Maya said.
“This partnership further aims to support local businesses and promote public trust in private local education institutions,” she added.
“I hope that with the MoU, we will see the beginning of better future collaborations in our quest for a nation that is populated with highly educated, skilled and successful people,” Dr Hajah Noor Maya said.
The UTB-SP Foundation Programme supports the Brunei Vision 2035 by providing more education opportunities.
It will require eligible students to undergo a one-year (two semesters) study where they will need to complete nine-10 modules before they can progress to UTB’s Year 1 or Year 2.
Signing on behalf of UTB was the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic), witnessed by the Vice-Chancellor.
The satellite partners were represented by Pengiran Haji Mohd Rahimin bin Pengiran Setia Jaya Pengiran Haji Abdul Momin (Acting Chief Executive Officer of KIGS), Loo Mei Tim (Managing Director of KI), Sylvester Yong (Chief Executive Officer of MIC) and Nadirah binti Jambol (Director of Studies at the CCCT).
For more details on the programme, visit the Higher Education Expo 2018 on February 10-11 at the UTB pavilion from 10-11am, noon-1pm, 1-2pm and 4-5pm.
