BANK Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) awarded scholarships to 31 students from the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) and Ministry of Education (MoE) yesterday.
The scholarship is provided under the BIBD ALAF (Advocating Life-Long Learning for an Aspiring Future) programme.
Deputy Minister of Education Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh attended as the guest of honour, while others present included senior officials and personnel from both ministries and BIBD. The event took place at The Empire Hotel & Country Club in Jerudong.
Following the recitation of Surah Al-Fatihah and prayers, BIBD Deputy Managing Director and Chairman of the BIBD ALAF Board of Trustees Hajah Noraini binti Haji Sulaiman delivered her welcoming remarks.
She said the scholarship programme saw students maintaining a 100 per cent pass rate in their Primary School Assessment examinations last year, with 10 students achieving 5As.
An undergraduate sponsored by the scholarship is pursuing her tertiary education at the University of Al-Azhar in Egypt.
Hajah Noraini noted that the ALAF programme received a certification under the ‘Asean Award on Rural Development and Poverty Eradication 2016’ in Kuala Lumpur in October 2017.
In line with the Brunei Vision 2035 to eradicate poverty and illiteracy, BIBD renewed its Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with both ministries during the event. This will ensure the continuation of the collaboration for nurturing underprivileged youths through education and guidance.
