THE Secretary-General of Asean Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi has expressed his appreciation for the work of the Asean Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management (AHA Centre).
According to a news item on Asean.org, the Secretary-General visited the AHA Centre, in Jakarta on February 2.
During the visit, Adelina Kamal, Executive Director of the AHA Centre, briefed the Secretary-General on the development of the AHA Centre, its facilities and the future plan.
The news item stated that the Secretary-General appreciated the work of the AHA Centre in monitoring and responding to disasters in Asean.
He recognised the strong bond between Asean Secretariat and the AHA Centre in coordinating matters related to disasters, and its importance in supporting his role as Asean Humanitarian Assistance Coordinator.
The Secretary-General also reiterated that Asean Secretariat will enhance communication outreach for the AHA Centre.
Prior to the briefing, the Secretary-General visited the Emergency Operations Centre which serves as the command and control centre during emergency responses.
The AHA Centre also shared its disaster monitoring tools which enable Asean member states to access information and updates in times of disaster.
Also joining the visit were Deputy Secretary-General of Asean Socio-Cultural Community Vongthep Arthakaivalvatee and other Asean Secretariat delegates.
This was the first visit of Dato Paduka Lim Jock Hoi to the AHA Centre since taking office as the Secretary-General of Asean.
