Higher Education Expo: One-stop information centre for students

THE Higher Education Expo 2018 held at the Bridex Hall 2 in Jerudong is a good opportunity for students who have completed their ‘O’ and ‘A’ Level or have similar qualifications and are looking at furthering their studies here or overseas.

The Higher Education Expo 2018 was officially launched by Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamzah bin Haji Sulaiman, the Minister of Education, as the guest of honour.

Also in attendance were Datin Paduka Dr Hajah Romaizah binti Haji Mohd Salleh, the Deputy Minister of Education; Dr Haji Azman bin Ahmad, the Deputy Permanent Secretary (Higher Education) at the Ministry of Education; Hajah Anis Faudzulani binti Haji Dzulkiflee, Acting Director General of Education and other officials.

With the main focus as a one stop information centre on higher education, the expo offers students can look at options to further their studies in various higher education institutions like Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), Universiti Teknologi Brunei (UTB), Universiti Islam Sultan Sharif Ali (UNISSA), Institute of Brunei Technical Education (IBTE), Politeknik Brunei, Religious Teachers University College of Seri Begawan (KUPU SB) as well as private educational institutions and companies.

Foreign missions from South Korea, the United States and Japan and the British Council are also participating in the expo showcasing education opportunities in their countries.

UTB also introduced the UTB- Satellite Partners foundation programme for the first time, one of the latest moves to help students who fall short of points for admission to the Computing and Business undergraduates programme in UTB.

According to information provided by UTB, the foundation programme in the School of Computing and Informatics (SCI) is a one-year programme open to applicants who meet the university’s minimum entry requirement but fall short of ‘A’ Level for admission.

The programme will be managed by UTB Satellite campus partners, Kemuda Institute, Micronet International College and Cosmopolitan College of Commerce and Technology.

Students who successfully complete the SCI foundation programme will be eligible for admission into the first or second year degree programme at SCI, UTB. The SCI foundation programme beginning every August will comprise two semester periods of study.

Meanwhile, the foundation programme in UTB School of Business, is created as a pathway to equip students with basic knowledge and skills.

Applicants will attend the foundation programme at Kolej International Graduates Studies (KIGS), one of UTB’s Satellite Partners.

The foundation programme will also commence every August and will comprise two semester periods of study.

Meanwhile, UBD will host a software development and training programme, the FPT- UBD Innovation Lab from March 3 to June 23.

The programme is set up to help participants solve real world problems with the latest IT innovations. The project based training will be delivered by export industry mentors from FPT, the largest IT enterprise in Vietnam.
