PEHIN Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong, Minister of Home Affairs visited the flood-hit areas of Mukim Tanjong Maya, Mukim Lamunin and Kampong Layong in the Tutong District yesterday.
Also present were Haji Mohammad Sunadi bin Haji Buntar, Acting Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA); Ajman bin Haji Meludin, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the MoHA; Haji Shamsul Bahrin bin Haji Mohd Hussain, Tutong District Officer; and members of the Legislative Council.
During the visit, the minister and his delegation took a closer look at the flood situation following heavy rain since February 7.
“From the observation during the visit, the flood water level is slowly receding. We pray and hope that the situation will continue to improve,” the minister said when interviewed on the current flood situation.
The minister also thanked personnel from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Fire and Rescue Department, the Royal Brunei Police Force, as well as the National Disaster Management Centre whom have been working together to help flood victims in terms of transportation especially residents who got cut off from communications.
“The Royal Brunei Armed Forces is utilising its vehicles to help transport residents of Kampong Panchong. The service is operational from 6am to 6pm. The roads were inaccessible even for 4WD vehicles,” the minister added.
“We also thank the Community Development Department for helping with the distribution of contributions to the affected residents. We hope that the weather condition will improve and people can go back to their daily lives.”
