FORTY-FOUR students from various villages in the country and a teacher who were victims of recent calamities received donations from the Ministry of Education (MoE) yesterday.
The fund for the donations was mobilised through collection drives organised at various departments and units under the ministry as well as schools, colleges and sixth form centres across the country.
The donations were handed over in a ceremony held at the P1 Conference Hall, MoE.
The recipients included victims of house fire at Kampong Mentiri, Kampong Lumapas, Kampong Limau Manis, Kampong Perpindahan Lambak Kanan, Kampong Saba Laut, Kampong Bakut Siraja Muda ‘A’, Kampong Tanah Jambu (STKRJ) Sungai Buloh, Penanjong Kem, Barik Jalan Pelumpong Pantai Muara, Kampong Bebatik Kulapis and Kampong Sumbiling Lama, as well as a victim of a house collapse at Kampong Sungai Matan and the head of family of a drowning victim.
Present as guest of honour at the ceremony to hand over the donation was Hajah Anis Faudzulani binti Haji Dzulkiflee, the Acting Director-General of Education, MoE.
The ceremony also saw donations given to members of the family of two former students at Pengiran Isteri Hajjah Mariam Secondary School, Serasa who drowned in Meragang Beach on January 7.
In his welcoming speech, Haji Ismail bin Haji Zainal, the Acting Senior Special Duties Officer (Corporate) said the fund collection drive mobilised a total of $12,880. The donations are intended to lessen the struggle of calamity victims and distributed in hope that they can continue to progress well in studies, he added.
The ceremony ended with a prayer for Ahmade Badawie Bolqiah bin Ahmed Aziz and Amir Akmal Azizi bin Jaafar – the victims of drowning.
Also present at the ceremony were Marina Chek binti Bujang, the Acting Director of Schools, MoE, section and unit heads at the Department of Schools and other invited guests.
