AN EXHIBITION on road safety and lifejacket use was held at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital yesterday parallel to the ‘Riadah Berbasikal Semangat Kebangsaan 2018’ held to mark Brunei Darussalam’s 34th National Day celebrations.
The exhibition, meant to enliven the cycling event, was organised by the Ministry of Communications (MinCom) through its strategic partners the Brunei National Road Safety Council (BNRSC) and Maritime and Port Authority of Brunei Darussalam (PBMP).
Touring the exhibition was His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah ibni Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam. His Majesty visited the exhibition booths after participating in the bike ride.
Also present at the event were the Minister of Communications, Awang Abdul Mutalib bin Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Yusof; Permanent Secretary at the MinCom, Haji Azhar bin Haji Ahmad; Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary at MinCom, Dr Haji Supry bin Haji Awang Ladi, and senior officials from the MinCom.
Throughout the safety campaign, it was stressed to the public to practise reciting Doa before beginning journeys, to reduce the speed of vehicles, especially during rainy conditions, to always use seatbelts while on the road, to not use mobile phones while driving, to ensure that their vehicles and tyres are in a good condition, to not drive under the influence of alcohol, and to drive carefully and comply with the road traffic regulations at all times, as well as the importance of using lifejackets for boat drivers and passengers.
