BRUNEI Darussalam finished third overall in the World Para Bowling Tour Series behind medal tally winners Malaysia and hosts Singapore at the Temasek Rifle Range Bowling Centre in Singapore yesterday.
Brunei, who previously sat in second place for two thirds of the three-day tournament, collected a haul of three gold, five silvers and three bronze.
The national para bowlers featuring Muhammad Jamary bin Danggat, Kamarul Ariffin bin Haji Abdul Ghaffar and Saidin bin Haji Damit bagged bronze in the men’s trios TPB1&2&2 division.
Korea won gold as Malaysia who was dominant in the tournament took silver in the event.
In the Masters All Events category, Kamarul Ariffin snatched silver in the TPB2 division with Saidin collecting bronze while Muhammad Jamary won silver in the TPB1 division and Khairul Anuar bin Haji Abdul Ghaffar claiming bronze in the TPB3 division.
“This is considered the best achievement made by our para bowling athletes since their event at the Asean Para Games in Kuala Lumpur last year, where they only got one gold and three silver,” said Brunei Darussalam para bowling coach Ahmad Athery bin Haji Abdul Samad.
“Winning a medal in the Masters All Events is the happiest moment for our para athletes since none of them have ever made it since they started bowling in any of the para bowling competitions,” he continued.
“With these results, we hope more disabled persons will join our para bowling team.
“We would also like to thank the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Paralympic Council of Brunei Darussalam and Utama I-Bowl Bowling Centre for their continuous support to the para bowling athletes. Our success is their success,” Ahmad said.
The other participating nations included Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and South Korea.
