A TOTAL of 265 students from the Hassanal Bolkiah Arabic Boys Secondary School (SMALHB) were awarded yesterday for their academic achievements in the Brunei Religious Education Higher Certificate (STPUB) and the BC GCE ‘A’ Levels.
The awards ceremony was held at the multi-purpose hall of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Girls Arabic Religious Secondary School in Kampong Katok.
Out of the 265 students, 113 achieved Mumtaz (excellent); 78 achieved Jayyid Jiddan (very good); 59 gained Jayyid (good); and 15 achieved Maqbul (pass).
Another 35 students received their BC GCE ‘A’ Level certificates. Twenty-three were from Umum 1 and the remaining 12 were from Umum 2.
Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Awang Badaruddin bin Pengarah Dato Paduka Haji Awang Othman, the Minister of Religious Affairs handed over the certificates.
In her welcoming remarks, Hajah Sarimah binti Haji Ahmad, the chairperson of the organising committee, noted the significant progress in the students’ results for the 2017 STPUB examination, during which 72.6 per cent (113 students) achieved Mumtaz, compared to 24.1 per cent (47 students) in 2016.
Among those receiving certificates were five students who got assistance from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB), the Community Development Department (JAPEM) and the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, with a score of Mumtaz for their examinations.
The students were Siti Nor Hidayatul Hazirah binti Rosli (Yayasan, and MUIB); Nurol Basyrah binti Haji Ariffin (Yayasan and JAPEM); and Muhammad Haziq Hafizin bin Mahali, Nur Maisurah binti Abas and Nurul Rafidah binti Amran (Yayasan).
Nine students were also awarded for Leadership, Academic, Mumaarasah Al-Lughah Al-’Arabiyyah, Co-Curriculum and Academic Improvement.
This was followed by the presentation of the ‘Pelajar Mithali’ 2016-2017 award to Amirah Fakhriah binti Amizulfadzillah, who achieved five Mumtaz in core subjects including At-Tauhid, Al-Quran Wal Hadith, Al-Lughah Al-‘Arabiyah, Bahasa Melayu and English Language.
She also excelled in her BC GCE ‘A’ Levels, obtaining two A* in Mathematics and Physics, with one A for Chemistry.
One of the Mumtaz students, Muhammad Haziq Hafizin, who was also given a special award for Academic Improvement, expressed his thanks to Yayasan for enabling him to do well in the examinations.
Abdul Shafiq bin Roszani who received special awards for Leadership, Academic and Mumaarasah Al-Lughah Al-‘Arabiyah, told the Bulletin that he intends to pursue further studies in Cairo, and thanked his parents for their support and motivation.
