EVERYONE should feel responsible in keeping the environment clean, as it will contribute positively to the nation’s health, said Samsul bin Haji Abdul Latif, Head Imam at the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque, Kampong Mentiri.
“The locals need to exhibit self-discipline and avoid throwing rubbish everywhere,” exhorted Samsul, who headed the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque’s committee members in their cleaning campaign to spruce up the cemetery at the RPN Kampong Mentiri last Sunday.
The mosque’s cleaning campaign is now into its fourth week.
Samsul relayed his statement at individuals who had dumped rubbish in the area and cautioned them to stop.
“This attitude creates environmental pollution and is a bad practice. These individuals need to go back to the context of religion which prohibits us from being impure,” he said, thanking the Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation (JASTR) for working together with the mosque to collect the dumped waste in the area during their cleaning campaign.
The mosque committee has taken extra steps to help their cause by placing signs prohibiting the disposal of waste in the area.
The cleaning campaign at RPN Kampong Mentiri cemetery is an activity organised and run by the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque committee as a show of its care towards the well-being of the residents and to strengthen the relationship between them and the mosque committee members.
