HIS Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office yesterday presented donations to Pengiran Muda Mahkota Al-Muhtadee Billah Fund for Orphans (DANA) and Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam during the prize presentation ceremony of the Richard Mille Brunei Championships.
Held at The Empire Hotel & Country Club’s golf club, the ceremony was also graced by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Jefri Bolkiah, Her Royal Highness Princess ‘Azemah Ni’matul Bolkiah, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Hakeem and Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Bahar as well as other members of the royal family and Cabinet Ministers. His Royal Highness the Crown Prince presented B$7,500 to DANA. The donation was received by Dato Paduka Eddie bin Dato Paduka Haji Sunny, Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.
Following this, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince handed over B$7,500 to Pusat Ehsan. Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Alimin bin Haji Abdul Wahab, Senior Trustee of Pusat Ehsan, received the donation.
In his remarks, Haji Mohd Junaidi bin Pehin Orang Kaya Digadong Seri Diraja Dato Laila Utama Haji Abdul Rahman, the organising chair of Richard Mille Brunei Championships, said, “We organised the championship with a clear objective in mind which is to develop golf in the country. Hosting this Asian Development Tour Competition has surely inspired our young golfers to raise their standards. Pengiran Wirahadikusuma bin Pengiran Haji Salleh is a testament to this who made the cut during the championship.
“Secondly, it is about putting us back on the golfing map after a long period of absence since the last Asian Tour eight years ago. By reviving an event such as this, we can certainly generate interest among renowned golfers to travel to Brunei,” he said.
Haji Mohd Junaidi also thanked the title sponsor Richard Mille, Promotoe SPS Innovative Enterprise led by Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Muda Abdul Hakeem, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
