IN EXPEDITING the process of the collection of small packets and enhancing the quality of customer service, the Postal Services Department has introduced the Acknowledgment of Receipt (AR) Listing or ‘AR Listing Service’.
The new AR Listing Service, which can be accessed through the department’s website www.post.gov.bn, was revealed by Haji Bolhassan bin Haji Bulat, Acting Deputy Postmaster General of the Postal Services Department during a press conference yesterday.
The AR Listing Service serves to inform recipients of the arrival of their mailed packages and contains list of information of small packets (below two kilogrammes) that are received from abroad and in a process of submission to the recipients.
The small packets listed are divided into two types, namely: ‘G’ for Green Stamp and ‘R’ for Red Stamp.
Haji Bolhassan explained that small packets with the stamp ‘G’ indicate that the item does not require customs inspection and will be directly delivered to the recipient’s address.
If there is no one at home during the delivery, a notification card will be left for the recipient to collect the item at the designated post office.

Packages with the stamp ‘R’ indicate that the items will be detained by customs and will undergo inspection and an AR card will be sent to the recipient’s address for them to collect the item at the designated post office within three working days as stated on the card.
“This service is one of the initiatives implemented by the Postal Services Department to ensure that the public can easily refer the status of their item through our official website,” he said, adding that “the AR listing service is for small packets received at the post office without a tracking number”.
The service began on March 22 and will run on a trial basis for a month.
During the trial period, the department will continue to enhance the service provided and acquire feedback from the public to ensure the service runs smoothly and meets its objectives.
The Postal Services Department advised the public to provide their contact number to the supplier to be stated on the packet and required recipients to bring their identity card to collect their small packets at the post office counter.
The new service stemmed from the need to provide the public with the ability to keep track of the status or arrival of their purchased items from abroad.
According to statistics, 160,091 small packets were received by the Postal Services Department in 2015, which is an increase of 399 per cent from 2010 with only 32,103 small packets.
The increase is seen to be a result of the growing popularity of online shopping from abroad by the locals.
