THE second edition of the all-women charity fun run ‘She Runs’, organised by Fitness Zone, yesterday received a big push with BMW, one of the world’s premium car brands, signing in as the title sponsor of the event.
Set to take place on May 15, 2016, She Runs this year aims to raise funds for two non-government organisations – the Children’s Cancer Foundation (YASKA) which supports children diagnosed with cancer and their families while they undergo treatment, and the Special Olympics Brunei Darussalam (SOBD).
The memorandum of understanding (MoU) was inked by Wu Chun, Managing Director of Fitness Zone and Roger Fletcher, General Manager of QAF Auto, the main distributor of BMW in the country.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Del Alfaro, General Manager of Fitness Zone and Haji Mohd Fitzila, Sales Manager of QAF Auto, Tsara’ Nawwarah binti Abdullah Chen, a representative from YASKA, and Haji Mahrub bin Haji Murni, Chairman of SOBD.
Highlighting BMW’s support, Wu Chun said, “It’s such a privilege to have BMW as the title sponsor of She Runs. I have a special relationship with BMW as it is the first car that I have driven that belonged to my father. Recently, I was appointed as the BMW brand ambassador by BMW China and that’s why and I approached QAF Auto seeking support for She Runs. They agreed to support the event because of its noble causes of raising funds for charitable organisations and creating awareness on women empowerment.”
Roger Fletcher commented, “BMW is proud to be the title sponsor of the 2016 She Runs, a charity fun run for ladies organised by Fitness Zone Women’s Club.
“QAF Auto’s involvement in the charity run echoes the organisation’s dedication to support charitable organisations in Brunei, and for this event they are YASKA and SOBD and all the proceeds of the event will go to them. We hope that we could do it more often,” he added.
Meanwhile, both YASKA and SOBD have expressed their gratitude for choosing them as the recipients of the money raised in the event.
“We are grateful and it makes us feel that we are not alone in the fight against cancer,” said Tsara’ Nawwarah.
Haji Mahrub added, “We are so grateful that SOBD has been chosen as one of the beneficiaries of this year’s event. With this assistance, SOBD will be able to organise events for the special athletes and enable them to compete at regional Special Olympics championships.”
Split into two categories of 3.7km and 5km, She Runs is limited to 1,500 participants. Online registration at sheruns.com.bn has commenced on March 23 and will conclude on April 10.
