Philippine gambling gang detained

TEN Philippine nationals allegedly involved in gambling activities at No 56 Tkt 1 Block C Bangunan Ong Keh Beng Kampong Madewa, Jalan Tutong, were detained by the Gambling Suppression and Anti-Vice Unit, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) last Wednesday.

According to the RBPF, police personnel, acting on information from the public, raided the premises and found four suspects (two males and two females) carrying out ‘Sap Sam Chong’ gambling activity.

Meanwhile, three suspects believed to be involved in 4D lottery and three suspects who were at the scene were also detained.

A carton of smuggled cigarettes and gambling equipment were seized. The suspects were brought to the CID for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 4 (c) of the Common Gambling Houses Act, Chapter 28 – which carries a $20,000 fine and 12 months’ imprisonment, Section 6(1) – which carries a fine of B$10,000 and imprisonment of 12 months, as well as Section 146 (1) of the Excise Order 2006 for Customs offence.

The RBPF urges the public to channel information on such activities to the police by contacting 993 or the nearest police station.
