TO ENHANCE the production and promotion of Halal goods not only locally but also internationally and realise the trade potential in Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and the Republic of Korea, strategic alliance agreements (SAA) were signed between a number of global players at the KHub Building, Anggerek Desa Technology Park on Friday.
Signing the agreements were Halal Korea Co Ltd, represented by its Managing Director Kim Jin Woo; International Halal Trade Hub and Services Brunei, represented by its Chief Operations Officer Hilman bin Abdullah; and Bru Trade International Sdn Bhd, represented by its Managing Director Ramlee bin Begawan Pehin Khatib Dato Paduka Haji Zainuddin.
The ceremony, hosted by the Cottage and Youth Initiative Programme (CYiP) at iCentre, was witnessed by Dato Sri Erynna binti Abdul Rashid from Malaysia, Executive Chairman of Bru Trade International and Captain (Rtd) Zailan bin Pehin Datu Kerma Setia Major (Rtd) Dato Seri Laila Jasa Mohd Don, Advisor to the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry Brunei Darussalam and also the Principle Mentor of the CYiP.
In his speech, Captain (Rtd) Zailan mentioned that in the global Halal industry, Brunei’s strength lies in Syariah compliance.
“The purpose of the SAA is to promote investments in the Halal market which comprises Halal food, Halal clothing and fashion as well as Halal tourism. Such strategic alliances will enhance the production and promotion of Halal goods not only locally but also globally and help unleash the Halal trade potential of Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and the Republic of Korea. The signing highlights the prominence of the international Halal market and Brunei’s potential role as a global and regional Halal trade hub.
“The Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia Malaysia-the Philippines East Asean Growth Area’s (BIMP-EAGA) support and facilitation helps gather the Asean Plus Three (China, Japan, Korea) in establishing the proposed Asean Economic Community, specifically for strengthening the Halal market and trade network.
“Hopefully with the collaboration and cooperation with the Republic of Korea, we can go further ahead in the Halal market as a collective ‘Jemaah’ with Brunei Darussalam as its leader,” he said.
