HAJI Md Eddy Huzaimi bin Haji Mat Yassin, from the Department of Technical Services at the Public Works Department (JKR); and Ratinah binti Hidup, from the Survey Department, were announced yesterday as first-place winners in the respective categories of Qari and Qariah in an Al-Quran reading competition for the Ministry of Development (MoD) and all departments under it.
Second places went to Mohd Khairul Hafizuddin bin Shamsudin, from the Survey Department; and Hajah Aminah binti Abdul Rahman, from the Department of Technical Services. In third place were Haji Abdul Aziz bin Haji Momin, from the Department of Technical Services; and Marjahwati binti Haji Maidin, from the Department of Building Services.
The winners were announced during the celebrations for Israk Mikraj 1439 Hijrah, by JKR’s Department of Development and Department of Technical Services, at which the guest of honour was Dato Seri Paduka Awang Haji Suhaimi bin Haji Gafar, the Minister of Development.
Also present were Haji Marzuke bin Haji Mohsin, the Permanent Secretary (Technical and Professional) at the MoD; Dr Nor Imtihan binti Haji Abdul Razak, the Acting Permanent Secretary (Administration and Finance) at the MoD; and Haji Amer Hishamuddin bin Pehin Orang Kaya Amar Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Zakaria, the Director-General of Public Works.
The event also featured a religious talk by Ustaz Dr Haji Ismuhadi bin Haji Abdullah from the Islamic Da’wah Centre at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
A total of 15 Qaris and 14 Qariahs participated in the competition, which was held on April 2-3, at JKR’s Atria Simpur Hall. Only three qaris and three qariahs qualified for the finals.
