COMMUNITY leaders must not be gullible and be wary of a myriad of cyber-related criminal activities in the country, said Pengiran Mohd Farid Zulhusni bin Pengiran Aziz, Lead Trainer at ITPSS/Brunei Computer Emergency Response Team (BruCERT).
He made these statements during a talk organised by the BruCERT in collaboration with the Tutong District Office at the Official Residence of the Tutong District Officer yesterday.
He added that not only do criminals steal cars but also steal personal information such as bank account details, addresses and IC numbers through phone calls or email.
Around 50 people comprising the penghulus mukim, village heads and members of the village consultative council.
Pengiran Mohd Farid Zulhusni said, “We must be careful to not spread fake news or hoax messages as it can cause panic. Whenever we receive news through WhatsApp, we must first check its legitimacy.”
Eddysham Sanif, Security Analyst at the ITPSS/BruCERT, demonstrated the risks of clicking on a random link and entering your personal information on unverified websites.
BruCERT is a national referral agency dealing with computer-related and Internet-related security incidents in Brunei Darussalam. It engages in public awareness initiatives, highlighting online threats, cyber safety and dispenses advice on securing personal information.
BruCERT offers cybersecurity awareness talks for schools and educational institutions throughout Brunei Darussalam, and has a regular radio show Cyber Safe on RTB’s Pilihan FM.
