BRUNEI Darussalam will celebrate National Family Day on May 6 with a mass cycling event, followed by festive activities, at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in the capital.
This was highlighted yesterday by Major General (Rtd) Dato Paduka Seri Awang Haji Aminuddin Ihsan bin Pehin Orang Kaya Saiful Mulok Dato Seri Paduka Haji Abidin, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, during the second meeting of the Executive Committee for the National Family Day celebrations.
Also present was Pengiran Dato Seri Paduka Haji Bahrom bin Pengiran Haji Bahar, the Deputy Minister of Religious Affairs and the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee for the National Family Day 2018 celebrations.
As chairman of the executive committee, the minister also stressed the importance of the family institution in the development of a highly integrated society.
“This year’s celebrations will focus on the issue of drug abuse, which has contributed to the increase in domestic violence, while threatening the stability and well-being of the family institution. This matter has been taken into account in the consolidation of family-based programmes throughout the year,” he said. The meeting was held to facilitate the organisation of this year’s National Family Day, and to receive reports from the working committees on the preparations being made for festive events from May 3-7.
The minister also urged all relevant parties, particularly members of the executive committee and working group, to unite efforts in working towards a successful outcome, whether at the national, district, village, organisational, community or family group level.
The meeting was also attended by members of the Legislative Council, permanent secretaries, deputy permanent secretaries, heads of departments, directors, district officers, chief executive officers, council presidents from the private sector and non-governmental organisations, and the members and representatives of the National Family Day Executive Committee for 2018.
Among the leading agenda is a Doa Kesyukuran session, to be held in main mosques across the country, on May 3. The main event on May 6 will begin the ‘Masjidku Makmur, Negara Berkat’ programme in nationwide mosques, which will be followed by a mass cycling event and recreational activities at the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien in Bandar Seri Begawan.
On May 7, the ‘Anakku Kesayanganku’ and ‘Keluargaku Penyayang’ twin campaigns will be coordinated by the spouses of Cabinet Ministers at hospitals in all four districts, to uphold the message of family as a cherished social institution.
