TRAVELLERS and tourists flying off from Brunei International Airport will be able to view some of the country’s most spectacular scenes in a Photography Exhibition currently being staged at the departure area of the airport.
Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary Resources and Tourism (MPRT), Department of Civil Aviation, Politeknik Brunei and Joseph Wong Siew Hang of Rose Photo Studio, the Photography Exhibition was officiated by Deputy Permanent Secretary (Tourism) at the MPRT Wardi bin Haji Mohammad Ali, as the guest of honour.
The photographs on display are those of winners and shortlisted candidates recently awarded at the Photography Competition organised by Politeknik Brunei in conjunction with last year’s Brunei December Festival 2017. The competition was themed ‘Places of Interest and Events held in Brunei Darussalam’.
The Photography Exhibition is aimed at further promoting Brunei and providing a glimpse of the country to travellers at the airport.
Following the tour of the exhibition, the deputy permanenty secretary visited the Tourist Information Counter (TIC) which has commenced operations at the airport’s arrival area. The counter’s operating hours are from 9am to 6pm daily.
The TIC is managed by the Association of Travel Agents Brunei (ATAB) with the support of the Tourism Development Department, and the Department of Civil Aviation.
It serves to provide information on Brunei and promotes places of interest in the country, stays in hotels or homestays, events and activities, as well as to create a positive experience for visitors by providing a high level of friendly and professional service.
In a bid to improve tourism services in the country, ATAB will work together with stakeholders to ensure tourists are furnished with enough information on places of interests, tours, brochures, maps, accommodation, transportation, shopping, restaurants and other related tourism services.
The addition of the TIC at BIA will increase the number of tourism outlets available in the country to three, with the existing ones located in Bandar Seri Begawan at the Dermaga Diraja and at the Kampong Ayer Cultural and Tourism Gallery.
To further provide information on interesting places in the country and for the convenience of tourists, a newly installed map of Brunei, showing Bandar Seri Begawan, Gadong and Kiulap, is located just outside the arrival area of the airport.
In 2017, the total number of international tourists arriving in Brunei via BIA reached 258,955 compared to 218,809 in 2016, representing an increase of 18.3 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y).
This milestone achievement exceeds the 10 per cent projection from last year and marks the highest record of international tourist arrivals since 2011 when 242,061 tourist arrivals were registered.
The Tourism Development Department continues to implement several initiatives to improve the quality of tourism facilities to ensure the comfort and safety of all visitors to Brunei.
